Maybe you’ve noticed that your website isn’t just your website anymore.
Your business website maybe managed by a developer, it may be hosted on Wix, WordPress, Squarespace or something else but undoubtedly you are drowning in data and automations. You probably have a host of payment providers, mailing lists, customer details, list of orders, you might even maintain some content in the form of blogs, podcasts, PDFs or videos.
Your website is way more than just a destination. It’s a portal for both your customers and you to work in. It’s the interface where you meet your customer.
In 2022, the sophistication of even a basic business website elevates it into a category reserved previously for purely developed solutions (i.e. ones that needed a team of developers to build and maintain). Software-as-a-Service web (SaaS) platforms are something which provides a product or service directly to an end-user. With the plethora of integrations that are now available, it’s easy to turn a humble CMS (Content Management System) into a LMS (Learning Management System). The management of the integration of video, audio, documents as well as user access, user administration, integrated marketing etc. All of this adds more and more complexity.
Your website is now a fully fledged business system.
So while you may think of your product website or membership or professional services website just as a webshop, it’s very different from that. The lines between that and a fully fledged SaaS product are blurring. The complexity is getting out of hand. In fact I’m starting to see Enterprise scale problems appear in one person entrepreneurship space.
Why is this important?
Why should you care about this complexity? The simple answer is because changing how you think about your web presence can help you better see your service from your customer’s perspective, and hone your efforts to give you more opportunity to regain control over the important elements that you want to automate.
The better you take responsibility for the components of this important system, the quicker you’ll be able to react or better still anticipate how your customer is going to change their demands in the future.
We start with a simple exercise to understand what it is you want from your business and your business systems.
